Wet & Windy British Moto GP
Saturday practice was a great day of hanging out, there’s a few riders that I now know so got myself about a bit in a few garages. Man it’s like walking into a jewellery box with all the parts and the set up… a different level. Watched the moto 2 boys backing their bikes in, it’s a great class, ace to see and saw the new moto 3 bike there, super sexy like the old RS 250 ooh yeah. I think I spent some more time talking bikes then took a trip up to the Eurosport box to see Toby and Julian do their thing…it’s wicked, they really buzz up there and so did I. Saw Derek Redman, a fellow Hottrax endurance rider, and talked about the week ahead… he’s a top boy and shared tips and strategy with us!!
I don’t know if the mood for Sunday was set by Cal hitting the deck; him coming off and breaking his collarbone seemed to rock us all. On the upside, Bradley Smith getting a second… mega. Starting at 28th and getting up to second, how good’s that? Woke up in the morning and saw a touch of blue, and optimistically I thought ‘that’s alright, it’s not gonna rain’… but no, by the time I’d had breakfast I walked outside and it was fucking pissing it down. Hey, at least I’m not riding in it.
And you know what, I’m really buzzed for Colin Edwards. It seems to be the collarbone season doesn’t it, with Pedrosa, Edwards, Cal… but I was really cheering him on. This weather always makes for interesting racing, and to be quite honest I’d just love to be getting those wet times in the dry, so to say those boys were working for their money is an understatement… I bet Nicky Haden wishes he’d found that pace a bit earlier on in the race; I’m sure when Bautista was pushing him, it made him get a bit of a move on and find that extra bit if grip and performance. Its always amazing watching the lads ride in these conditions and seeing what they can do.
So just stuck in traffic now and trying to find a way out of the circuit after standing still for the past hour… but hey, that’s racing!
