so i haven’t really been to MX before but when monster energy invited me down to Valkenswaard in Holland i thought yeah i’m up for this as many, if not most of the great riders have a mx background. It was a world championship round so i was buzzed to see how the top boys do it !!! The first thing that struck me was the size of the event.. Shit, 35 thousand people… and how it’s possible to just stand track side which is cool (you know how it is to feel the bikes thumping past gettiing shit flung at you makes you a real part of it!!!)

so grabbed a bit to eat - proper la-di-da hospitality - and a seat at the table with the monster girls - life’s hard ha? then went out to see the start of the senior race 450, again people just sitting on the banks of the start line freestyle. 30 bikes, one bend, LOUD! mayhem - yeah cool and exciting..
Had a walk round the track, hard work in the 26 dc heat, how the riders do it i dont know! Finally ended up on top of the pits to watch the next two races and what struck me was the the flow of the riders. The track is real sandy and forever changing but the riders just seem to glide over the track…. sounds funny to use a word like graceful when talking about MX but yeah it was. Shit they are good. Fast as!! A real cool day… jumped on an easyjet home to Stansted, great day out. Now im looking forward to getting the ktm out and do some lanes !!!

brands hatch indy SUZUKI day.
we had just had the BSB there .. well it’s just down the road. Neevesy stayed over so night before plenty of bike talk… what he had had on test, BSB, moto GP and the year ahead. He’s cool and a great guy to hang out with. He was there to test the gsxr 750 - the 750 is mega, i got one that i ride to the studio and rag about at weekends . I’m off to le mans on it with neevesy. All the lads at the gsxr days are cool and having been going to them since 2002 (i think??? but something like that) i know a lot of the faces now, we had a great laff. The other test rider is there and he’s a proper funny lad so it was a day out with the boys - bikes, sunshine - yeah super cool !!
josh brooks and alistair seeley were there from tas suzuki and somehow on my last session before lunch josh apeared and started to drag me round, man i can’t tell you the buzz. i just followed his lines and thought if he can do it so can i. Suddenly i was just in a flow - fuck it was mega… really hard to write it down as words can’t say how cool that was… 17 laps and fast the session ended. as i pulled in pit lane i looked back and neevesy had been with us all the way. to enjoy that with a buddy is cool as !!!! and i felt like i had won the lottery, jumping round the garage you can’t get higher than that when everything clicks.

1st may
short and sweet really after my mint week of bikes - MX and BSB etc. i had to get the ktm out and do some lanes with some lads that i ride out with.
6 of us, cool guys - we are lucky we have about 3 hours of riding around here, man it was dusty what with no rain but adds to the buzz !!!
one of the lads lost a bolt out his frount caliper. we looked for it on the road that crossed a lane but were blocking the road when an old lady came up in her car.. we moved the bikes and she had her window open so martin asked if she lived close by and did she have any bolts in her shed? she said yeah jump in the car and come have a look … so he went with her and came back with her son, a bolt and the tools to fix it! ESSEX people are pretty cool and laid back and it meant we all rocked on !! we went to a track like a MX track in a huge field that a farmer owns and he lets you ride round it. mad!! Ha, you feel like it’s not true - it’s got jump berms table tops fuck !! a real dream and a few lads get up there so its quite a cool place to hook up with other riders and pick up new trails !!!

silverstone GP - I’ll be honest i woke up and wasn’t feeling it today don’t know why but we all have them days. i stayed local so i was already there… so I rock up and get my mind into it and it’s all good !! and it’s funny because after the first few laps i was buzzing, i had a top day! silverstone GP can get real packed but group 3 was not so full so we could get a move on. derek redmond who rides in hottrax endurance and is a good friend came down and he’s always good to have about. yeah not a lot to say but really buzzed today. every session was good and felt relaxed and up to pace, funny how the day felt like a shit one at first hmmm ?? i left one sesion from the end to get home as im riding to le mans in the morning cant wait !! come on my first GP of the year !!!!

Brands BSB

Man to think that two year ago it was snowing at the BSB and now look at it the paddock is buzzing and so am I, can’t wait to see hopkins, shakey, kirkham and guy martin have a tear up as well all hungry to show what they can do!

I bumped into spike edwards as I walk in and have a brew with them. their team has all super cool people.

then roll off to crescent drop my stuff off there and hook up with russell joiner, who built my bike from new, top boy and a true friend. he’s buzzing away working on kirkham’s bike. he takes such pride in his work yeah good man but I have to say a real high light for me and there was a few, was to see roger marshal who coached me and became a friend when he was with reva red bull he work as a steward for bsb now „! Good on ya roger ! 

Super pole was just man everyone 100ths of seconds apart shakey set a new all time track record 45.114 or there abouts fuck me that’s fast now I’m really buzzed to get myself up there wednesday on the Suzuki day let hope the sun holds out ah !! 

I’m off to holland now to the Valkenswaard MX I’ll let you know how it goes !!

bit of a tear up

hey hey, well i was thinking on my ride home from the studio last night, as im having a bit of a tear up with a moto guzzi, a dude on a supermoto and me on my gsxr 750. this is how every ride through traffic used to be. now everyone is driving miss daisy.

when we stopped at the lights and the dude on the supermoto said looks like your tyre is going flat. we both looked and said no it is flat!!

so i pulled into a garage looked over the road and there was a motor spares shop, cool im in, tyre weld, air and im off. i put it in and as soon as it left the can it was pissing out of the hole in my tyre - shit!!!!

now im not shitting you„!!!! as i stood up i looked up and to the left of the shop there was scotts tyres yes !!!!

i went over he said he dosent do bikes but had some stuff he could force into the hole and it should hold itself. he did it and it held - i got home 40mins later and the drama was all over, fuck me it dont get better than that.

Brands Hatch GP testing

well what can i say about the weather….!!!!!!!!

wooow yeah mega its what bikes are made for aye ??

brands GP one of the best tracks in the world ..says the man who has only rode in the uk and twice in spain but yeah best track in the world lets stick with that.

i was put in group 2, mate some real slow boys in there shit it was like playing bumper cars!! hey we are all here to have fun and its good keep you on point but when it got to lunch i asked to move up to group 3 shit they were fast and i was at a much slower pace, right time to put my head down and get this thing working.

i was feeling good about the bike as i’d lent it to john hopkins the day before to take to oulton park to get to grips with the track, they cant take his BSB bike there so he took mine.. he gave me good feedback and didn’t change much, so that’s a tribute to russell and the boys that have worked with me to get it set up, but he had dropped the seat 5mm and pulled the bars in 2mm„„ and thats funny, because id asked trevor to do that when i was at snett 300 with neevesy and MRO on their practice day ..no race for me, they’re way too fast „ one day, let me get up to speed first ..haha

yeah so i left it that way and man it felt great was over the bike more and it felt right ! cool

so back to the day to sum it up it was cool but not great, met some real cool lads as you always do, like minded people and all that.

two lads in our garage are racing mini twins this weekend at the BSB so good luck to them!

great bike riding and thats what its all about but you know some days I just don’t click

mallory park

so thursday afternoon i drove down to mallory park in an old motorhome i’ve rented off a local lady, i think its about to see more action in the next few days than in its 20 year life. derek redmond has saved some space with his team, real cool guys !!

that night fuck it was cold, could not get the heating to work for love or money, shit!!! but hey i’m thinking man up this is racing !!

i wake at 7am look out to see trevor pull up with the bike, so straight to garage 5 to load in and set base for our weekend’s racing, teammate paul rocks up 30 mins later - nice work! all the hottrax riders around us are super cool and buzzy, the vibes right !! lets go… 

to be fair i’m not too nervous at all, in the back of my mind the last big crash was here - just coming off the back straight but its all changed now…. so what !?!?i felt that things were all good steady anyway, have a new starlane lap timer and big red numpty change up light so was getting my head around that.

just before lunch paul my team mate said i’ll follow you out see how you’re going, 5 laps in he came past like he was on fire !!!

my next lap round i see him on the track just past the entry to edwina’s - bits of bike everywhere, he’d clipped the curb coming out of gerards, man thats fast as and high sided and rolled 150m no lie ..„!!!! i could not see the bike, shit he looks in a bad way im thinking as i ride past, which is hard when its your mate !!

anyway the pictures should show what had happened to the bike …its FUCKED

so we packed up - thanx to all the helpers at track super cool!! and lets hope paul’s as well as he can be today, man he will be stiff, black and blue.

now looking at the weather today and thinking how id love to be there right now this shit gets in your blood !!
